Hi there!

I think this is the part where I start with an introduction about myself. Let me skip ahead to the important parts... I am starting my third year of teaching in kindergarten. The last two years of my life have been a whirlwind of learning and growing as a professional (and individual) in the classroom. Some of the things I have learned, I wish someone had told me a lot sooner. That's why I'm here. Let me help you in your journey, whether you are starting your career as a teacher or teaching kindergarten for the first time.

You've gotten the keys to your new classroom, and you are excited to get in there and start the decorating! I am so excited for you. This is probably one of my favorite parts about being a teacher. Before you begin, consider this... What is your budget for decorating? From my experience, teachers spend their own money to make the classroom adorable. I have yet to hear of a district that pays for that :) My advice would be to not overdue it your first year. Remember that you have your whole career to make the classroom yours. You don't have to spend tons of money the first year to make it cute. Chances are, if this is your first year teaching or your first year in kindergarten, you will be spending a lot of your own money buying materials throughout the year. Taking on a first or new classroom

I don't know about you, but I am a Pinterest addict. When I graduated and started applying for my first teaching position, I spent hours and hours looking for ideas for my very own classroom. I couldn't wait to get my room and start the decorating!! Maybe you walked in to this brand new classroom or an empty old room ready for your decorations, but that's not my story. I remember walking into my classroom for the first time, and I went from excited to overwhelmed. The previous teacher had left everything. She was moving on to a fifth grade classroom and the kindergarten stuff just didn't apply. So she left it all for me...and the previous teacher left her things....and the one before her. You get the idea. How could I possibly start moving my stuff, bringing in my ideas, making this classroom my own when everyone had left theirs?
